2006 June - Ten Greyhounds in Sydney South Rep Squad A record ten Glebe players have been selected in the Sydney South Pigeons, Under 14 and 13 representative squads. Players selected from Glebe 14s are Michael Trent, Cameron McKenzie, Blake Malcolm, Joe Britton, Max Oke and Brady Olsen in the Pigeons 14s, while James West and Rhys Lindsay are in the 13s team. That means eight players from our current under 14s side have been judged good enough for selection in a team comprising players from the four Greater Sydney Junior AFL associations located south of the harbour - Sydney City, St George, South West and Illawarra – an area all up containing 26 junior clubs. And Chris Bolt and Jacob Pallister from our Under 15s were also picked in the 14s. This is the largest number of representative players from any one club in Sydney. The squads were selected following an AFL representative carnival at Richmond. The sides will play in a state carnival on July 5th, 6th and 7th at Homebush Stadium. Congratulations boys. This is a big honour for you and the Glebe Greyhounds. http://aflgsj.com.au/default.aspx?s=newsdisplay&aid=108034 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2006 June - Saint Kilda signs former Glebe player
The St Kilda Football Club has signed former Glebe Greyhounds junior AFL player, 16 year old Khan Haretuku, under the new AFL (NSW/ACT) Scholarship Program. Khan played with the Greyhounds in 2004 and 2005 and is currently playing with Balmain under 18s and the NSW development squad. Glebe President Dave Britton said Khan’s signing was a tribute to his potential as a footballer and to the strength of the junior development program at the Greyhounds. “Khan really blossomed as a footballer in 2005 and his selection by the Saints shows that talented AFL players in Sydney are getting a real opportunity to play at the highest level.” St Kilda’s Sydney representative Danny Ryan and Recruiting Manager John Beveridge have followed Khan’s development in recent times and watched him play in the recent NSW Talent Camp held at Riverview College in Sydney.
